12-16-09 KALLIE BILLADEAU School: Hopkins Year: Senior There was a time, Billadeau admits, when her current streak of more than 153 minutes without giving up a goal would have made her nervous.Position: Goalie “I don’t think about it anymore,” she said. “When I was younger, I’d have a shutout going and with about a minute to go, I’d start thinking ‘Oh, sweet. I have a shutout.’ And then I’d give up a goal with, like, 30 seconds left. So I don’t worry about things like that anymore.” Good thing, too, because the way Billadeau has been playing, she would be thinking about nothing but shutouts. Last week she blanked Prior Lake 6-0, stopping 10 shots, and stonewalled Lakeville South by stopping 31 shots in a 7-0 victory. The previous Saturday, she made 31 saves as the 2009 Class 2A state runners-up beat St. Cloud 3-0. Like most goalies, Billadeau, a senior, credits her team’s defense for her success. “I owe it all to my teammates. We’ve been scoring a lot of goals and the defense keeps most of the shots I see to the outside.” But Billadeau also acknowledges the fact that her presence in net helps her teammates play without fear of making a mistake. “That’s what I want,” she said. “I want everything to be on my shoulders. I want that pressure. I love it when my teammates lean on me. Kallie is one of the Star Tribune Players of the week. |
